Achaval-Ferrer Quimera Red Blend 2014

Achaval-Ferrer Quimera Red Blend 2014

We think this Achaval-Ferrer Malbec blend is a knock-out, juicy, fruity, delicious red from Argentina. And lets be honest: you cant beat the price with a stick! The medium body of this Achaval-Ferrer Malbec blend works beautifully with many meat dishes. Beef, lamb and steak are the top choices. Grill the steak, and pick your favorite cooking method for the others. Braising or stewing a beef or lamb entree is a great option. The subtle spice and smoke notes in this magnificent Malbec blend will really shine with barbecued lamb served with a tomato-mint chutney on the side. Sausage, by itself , or on a pizza is another delicious choice for this versatile wine. If youre channeling your inner South American, make it alambre de ribeye - skewers of ribeye, chorizo, bacon, and red bell peppers served with a tomato-chile morita sauce. On the lighter, meat-free side, putting a glass of this Malbec blend next to a mushroom pizza will not disappoint either. Its spaghetti and giant meatballs for dinner around here...Suculento!

Robert Parker, Jr.s Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Quimera is a blend of different red grape varieties from old vines in different places in the province of Mendoza, Perdriel in Lujn de Cuyo, Tupungato in Valle de Uco and Medrano in Maip. It is a blend of 50 percent Malbec, 24 percent Cabernet Franc, 18 percent Merlot and 8 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine matures in French oak barrels (80 percent new) for 13 moths. Its a subtle, elegant and perfumed Mendoza blend. Drink date: 2016 - 2020." Dec 2016 Winery: "Quimera is architecture and design; it is a unique warm-blend that was conceived at the vineyard. Every year Santiago and Roberto look for the meaning within the earth in the search for the impossible wine, making it unique year after year. Thus resulting in a wine with deep shades, aromas that range from stony and earthy, of dark fruits to delicate accents of rosemary, open mouthed, almost feminine and deliciously sour. Quimera is heuristic; it is personal discovery and the search of perfection. Medium ruby. Floral aromas with blackberry, blueberry and cassis. Concentrated, well-integrated with flavors of crushed blackberry, licorice and bitter chocolate-tobacco. Outstanding cellaring capacity. Serving temperature between 16 and 18C. We strongly recommend decanting this wine at least an hour before drinking."
